Blurb:
It's been six weeks since the angels of the apocalypse destroyed the world as we know it. Only pockets of humanity remain.

Savage street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night.

When angels fly away with a helpless girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back...

First Thoughts

This book came out in 2012. TWO THOUSAND TWELVE. It's 2015 now. Why did I not read this before?? I loved everything about it. This folks, is how you write an angel story. I mean, seriously, who'd ever think the angels were the ones to watch out for?

Finally, a new all time favorite to add to my shelf!

What I Enjoyed

Penryn Young. For the longest time, Katniss Everdeen has remained my top book heroine. Finally, a new heroine has given her a run for her money! I loved that Penryn would do anything and everything to rescue her sister from the evil angels who captured her. Strong and selfless. I loved her!
I lean into his strength until I realize what I'm doing. I pull back abruptly. I don't have the luxury of leaning on anyone's strength, least of all an angel's.

Raffe (spoilers ahead). I love that he is nothing I ever expected an angel to be. An agnostic angel. Like.. what..?? Good lord, it hit me right in the feels when his beautiful wings were cut off and my heart broke when they marred his body with those horrible demon bat wings. Susan Ee, you have to make this right in the next book!

The detailed descriptions of each scene. I loved Ms Ee's writing style! The writing was so fluid and it took no effort at all to envision all of the chapters and scenes. I found myself wanting to reread each page because I loved all the emotions I felt (most of the time that emotion was anxiety).

Paige Young. She reminded me of Primrose Everdeen-- the younger sister that needed protecting because life dealt her an unfortunate hand! I had high hopes that Paige's story in Angelfall would end on a high note but, unfortunately, it didn't quite happen that way.

The setting. I am a Bay Area girl so of course I'm going to love that the story took place in my neck of the woods! I live and work in the Silicon Valley. As a matter of fact, I work right off of the El Camino Real that was mentioned in the first several chapters of Angelfall. Gosh, I had such a great time imagining my city and world turning into the destruction and devastation portrayed in Ee's book.

Memorable Quotes

When I open my eyes, the morning light makes me wish I hadn't. Raffe lies on his sofa, watching me with those dark blue eyes. I swallow, suddenly feeling awkward and unkempt. Great. The world has come to an end, my mother is out there with the street gangs, crazier than ever, my sister has been kidnapped by vengeful angels, and I'm concerned that my hair is greasy and my breath smells bad.

Recommended For

Anyone and everyone! But definitely young adult paranormal readers, especially those who'd like to read a unique version of an angel story.
